DAVID SUÁREZ

CFO

David is a seasoned banking executive, finance expert, business leader, and independent board director with more than 17 years of accumulated private sector experience, and more than 10 years of prior experience in the public sector.  His main areas of expertise are strategic finance, FP&A, debt and capital structuring, investor relations, corporate governance, and product & business digital transformation.


Currently, he is a member of the Audit & Risk Committee at Nacional Monte de Piedad (largest pawn & personal lending nonprofit institution in Mexico), serves as an independent board director and president of the audit committee in Grupo KC (largest insurance agent for Metlife in Mexico), and independent board director at Grupo KRAFIR (paper production). He is a professor of international & corporate finance, management strategy, and project management at master’s degree level in Universidad Panamericana.


Previously, David consulted KIVA Protocol for 6 months on regional development and partnerships in Central America. He also held various responsibilities in Grupo Salinas for 5 years, first as Head of Latam Banking at Banco Azteca, and later as Head of Operations and Shared Services for the banking, retail, and media units of the Group in Latam, modernizing and digitally transforming products and business units to provide more financial access to the unbanked population. 


For 10 years, he was Chief Financial & Investor Relations Officer in Grupo Financiero Banorte, the second largest financial group in Mexico, leading financial management, risk, internal controls, M&A and capital markets’ access, positioning GFNORTEO as one of the leading Mexican issuers with the global investor community and raising more than US 4.5 billion of capital to fund strategic growth initiatives that positioned the group as a leader in most business lines.      


In 2014 he was ranked as the best CFO in Mexico and Latam by the prestigious publication “Institutional Investor”, who also ranked him as the best IRO in Mexico and Latam between 2010 and 2013. He was also recognized as one of the most innovative CFOs in Mexico by Forbes magazine.


He holds a masters in Economic Policy and Management from Columbia University in New York and a bachelor’s degree in Business and Finance from Universidad Panamericana in Mexico. He is certified as a Project Management Professional by the PMI Institute.
